DeNA and Disney Interactive have revealed Star Wars: Galactic Defense, a brand new Star Wars-themed tower-defense video game in development for iOS and Android.

Slated to arrive later this year as a free-to-play title, Star Wars: Galactic Defense features many iconic characters and locales fans will recognize from both the classic Star Wars films as well as the more recent prequels.

At the beginning of the game, players will also be able to choose whether they want to align themselves with either the light side or dark side of the force, which will impact the specific units and special abilities they’ll have access to.

“Star Wars is a franchise that has touched us all at DeNA and we’re honored to work with Disney and Lucasfilm on Star Wars: Galactic Defense,” said Barry Dorf, vice president of partnerships and alliances at DeNA. “We can’t use the Force, but we do have one of the world’s most talented and passionate mobile development teams working to create an unforgettable Star Wars gameplay experience.”

Along with the game’s official announcement, the publisher has also released a behind-the-scenes video look at Star Wars: Galactic Defense’s ongoing development (watch it above).

Players who pre-register to play Star Wars: Galactic Defense will get the chance to unlock exclusive bonus content the week of the game’s launch—including the Sith lord Darth Maul—and be notified the moment the game goes live on the App Store.
