Now you can wheel and deal on newer iOS devices.

Fortune Street might not be the first franchise that springs to mind when you see the familiar Square Enix logo, but the series certainly has its devotees. The Wii iteration offered an expansive experience, mixing real estate and investment elements with a board game approach. Consumers largely elected not to take a chance on the title, despite its smart use of familiar Nintendo mascots, and that could have been the end of things in the West.

Instead, Square Enix released Fortune Street Smart on iOS devices in 2012. It’s a free-to-play title optimized for the iPhone but not necessarily ready to support newer hardware… until now.

“Well, we can all breathe a sigh of relief,” writes Shaun Musgrave at Touch Arcade, “because Fortune Street Smart has finally been updated to work with the latest version of iOS and newer iOS devices. Sadly, that comes at a heavy cost, as iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 3rd Generation devices are no longer supported, but I think it’s something we’re all willing to bear just to have this game properly playable once again.”

The game’s App Store listing indicates that the title has specifically been updated to support iPhone 4 and upward, including iPhone 6 Plus. However, it warns you not to install the update if you already have the game and have been enjoying it on your iPhone 3GS and iPod touch (3rd generation).

Fortune Street Smart isn’t necessarily an “important” title, but it shows that Square Enix is still willing to support its older releases as new hardware renders them less enjoyable. That’s good news for fans no matter how you look at it.
