Simulated cities are on their way to the palm of your hand.

If you’ve been looking forward to the arrival of SimCity BuildIt on mobile devices, you may not have much longer to go. For that matter, with Joystiq reporting that the game has soft launched in Canada (Android) and New Zealand (iOS), it’s possible the game is already playable in your region.

Joystiq describes the play mechanics as follows: “Players can tend to zones, roads and traffic, services, city specializations and data layers of their metropolis, and the familiar goal of landmarks returns.” That should ring a bell for anyone who has enjoyed past installments in the series.

The current SimCity title on PC was plagued by issues at launch, including the lack of an online mode, but it sounds as if that last point has been addressed. The developers are still keen to see you play while connected, though, remarking that “many of the coolest features do require an online connection.”

According to the Joystiq story, SimCIty BuildIt is a free download that will offer in-app purchases. If you secretly harbor an internal tycoon, the game could be the perfect outlet for that side of yourself once it launches worldwide.
