Two of Gameloft’s mobile heavy-hitters receive upgraded visuals through Apple Metal.

Apple’s Metal is a hardware-accelerated graphics API that allows games on Apple A7-powered devices like the second-gen iPad Mini, iPad Air, iPhone 6/6+ and  iPhone 5S to receive a substantial graphical boost.

This week, Gameloft announced that two of its biggest titles, Modern Combat 5: Blackout and Asphalt 8: Airborne, will support Metal-enhanced visuals on iOS 8. That’s big news considering the games are, without question, some of the best looking mobile games out there, sporting graphical fidelity comparable to what you’ll find on consoles.

Modern Combat 5 gets Metal bolstered effects including graphical effects with 5x more particles, denser explosions, impact particles, increased detail in weather and environments as well as advanced heat haze and god rays.

Asphalt 8: Airborne’s Metal features include not only richer detail on vehicles and environments but new content including five brand new cars, new multiplayer events and a Metal-exclusive playable season.

Now available to download on the App Store, Modern Combat 5: Blackout is $6.99 while Asphalt 8: Airborne is free (with optional in-game purchases).
