Pistols are guns for people who don’t have access to sniper rifles…

It took its sweet time coming, but Hitman: Sniper finally launched this week and is available on both the App Store and on Google Play. It’s not a free-to-play title, though, so prepare to spend $4.99 if you want to get busy sniping.

As noted in a press release Square Enix issued to mark the occasion, Hitman: Sniper is a “fixed position shooting game set in beautiful Montenegro.” Despite your inability to move from your assigned spot, you’ll need to use “skill, subtlety, subterfuge and the environment” if you mean to complete your contracts.

“As Agent 47, you will need to observe your targets’ movements across an expansive mansion and execute them in creative ways,” the press release states. “Complete more than 100 missions and unlock new deadly sniper rifles equipped with new abilities to rule the leaderboards.”

You’ll be able to make use of a surprising variety of gear and techniques, including “accidental and environmental kills, X-Ray kills, lures, double headshots, and body disposals.” The whole time, of course, you want to remain unseen. Snipers don’t tend to fare well when nests are discovered.

If you’re ready to spend around $5 on another mobile Hitman experience, we’d hardly blame you. Hitman GO was well received and proved that Square Enix is ready to take the franchise seriously on mobile devices. A sniping-focused game is a different beast, but it could still prove quite interesting. Let us know what you think of it if you give the new game a shot.
